The House of Representatives will on Thursday vote on a constitutional amendment bill seeking to establish state police across Nigeria.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, the Deputy Speaker of the House, Benjamin Kalu, who also chairs the House Committee on Constitution Review, called on all lawmakers to attend the plenary session and participate in the crucial vote.
Kalu said the proposed legislation is part of ongoing constitutional review efforts aimed at addressing key governance and security issues in the country.
The planned vote comes amid increasing calls for the creation of state police as a means of strengthening security and improving responses to local security challenges.
Further details on the bill and the outcome of the vote are expected after Thursday’s plenary session.
