The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced that prospective corps members (PCMs) will no longer be mobilised for national service without obtaining clearance from the National Electronic Registration Database (NERD).
The directive, announced in a public notice on the scheme’s official X account on Monday, forms part of the NYSC’s preparations for the mobilisation of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ prospective corps members.
According to the scheme, NERD clearance is now compulsory for all prospective corps members, urging graduates to complete the process early to avoid delays in their mobilisation.
“This is to inform PCMs that without NERD clearance, no NYSC. Get your NERD clearance early. Avoid delays in your mobilisation,” the notice stated.
The NYSC further stressed the mandatory nature of the requirement, saying, “NERD clearance is compulsory for all PCMs. No NERD clearance, No NYSC.”
Although the scheme did not provide further details on how the clearance process would be carried out, the new requirement signals tighter verification measures ahead of the next orientation exercise.
The announcement comes shortly after the NYSC began preparations for the mobilisation of another batch of prospective corps members for the 2026 Batch ‘B’ service year, directing tertiary institutions and eligible graduates to complete all necessary documentation before the orientation camp.
It also follows a recent safety advisory in which the NYSC warned prospective corps members against travelling at night to orientation camps. The scheme advised them to break their journeys when necessary and spend the night in safe locations or designated military and security facilities instead of travelling after dark.
The latest directives underscore the NYSC’s efforts to strengthen the credibility of its mobilisation process while improving the safety of prospective corps members amid ongoing security concerns on Nigerian highways.
Prospective corps members are expected to complete all required registration and verification procedures, including the newly introduced NERD clearance, before reporting to orientation camps.
