The House of Representatives on Thursday passed a constitutional amendment bill seeking to establish state police across Nigeria.
The bill was approved during the plenary session after lawmakers voted in favour of the proposed amendment.
The passage of the bill marks a significant step in ongoing efforts to reform Nigeria’s security architecture by allowing states to establish and operate their own police forces alongside existing federal security agencies.
The proposal is part of broader constitutional reforms aimed at addressing growing security challenges across the country. The bill will proceed through the remaining legislative and constitutional processes required before it can become law.
