Government Secondary School (GSS) Hamidu Bako, located in the Kofar Na’isa area of Kano State, has reportedly become a haven for hoodlums and drug-abusing youths due to the absence of a functional gate and the deteriorating condition of its perimeter fence.

A correspondent of THR News who visited the school observed the poor state of the facility, including sections of the damaged fence that allow unrestricted access to the premises.
A resident living near the school told our reporter that miscreants frequently enter the school compound without any hindrance, leading to the theft of teaching and learning materials from classrooms and administrative offices.
The resident, who requested anonymity, said some renovation works had previously been carried out within the school, but neither the perimeter fence nor the main gate was repaired, making it easy for criminals to gain access to the premises.
According to him, hoodlums often use the school as a hideout and have been breaking into classrooms and offices to steal school property.
Findings by THR News revealed that several complaints have been submitted to the Gwale Local Government Council, requesting the repair of the school’s fence and the provision of a gate. However, no action has been taken so far.
Efforts to obtain comments from the Chairman of Gwale Local Government, Hon. Mu’azu Mojo, were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
