Lack of access road subject FCT community to untold suffering

By Adamu Abdullahi

The people of Lanto Village in Kuje Area Council, Abuja, have made a passionate appeal to government authorities, urging immediate intervention to construct a standard access road and bridge to end years of hardship and dangerous crossings during the rainy season.

Residents of Lanto Village say they have endured neglect for far too long, as the absence of a proper road and bridge has cut them off from neighboring communities. The situation worsens during heavy rains, when floodwaters make movement perilous for villagers.

According to concerned youths and residents, women, children, students, farmers, and the elderly are the worst affected, as they are forced to wade through swollen streams to reach schools, hospitals, and markets. They lamented that this has led to repeated loss of lives and disruption of economic activities.

The community stressed that despite being part of the Federal Capital Territory, they have not enjoyed the basic infrastructure expected by FCT residents. They insisted that the government must act swiftly to correct this imbalance and ensure inclusive development.

In their appeal, the villagers called on the Chairman of Kuje Area Council, the Distinguished Senator representing the FCT, the Honourable Minister of the FCT, and relevant agencies to prioritize the construction of a standard access road and bridge.

They described themselves as peace-loving and hardworking citizens who only seek safe movement and opportunities for growth. The lack of infrastructure, they argued, has slowed their progress and exposed them to unnecessary risks.

The residents emphasized that urgent intervention would not only save lives but also boost farming, trade, and education in the area. They warned that failure to act could result in more tragedies during this year’s rainy season.

Signed by concerned residents and youths of Lanto Village, the statement concluded with the proverb: “A stitch in time saves nine,” expressing hope that their cry will be heard and that government action will finally bring relief to their community.
