The member representing Bichi Federal Constituency, Hon. Abubakar Kabir Abubakar, has commissioned 120 temporary health workers for deployment to primary healthcare centres across Bichi Local Government Area of Kano State, while announcing plans by the Federal Government to establish a teaching hospital in the area.
The commissioning ceremony, held on Saturday in Bichi, was attended by the Kano State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, and other government officials and community leaders.
Speaking at the event, Abubakar said discussions were ongoing with the Federal Ministry of Health and the management of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital to facilitate the establishment of a teaching hospital in Bichi, describing the project as a major step toward improving healthcare delivery in the constituency.
He said the proposed hospital had received the backing of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, adding that efforts were underway to secure the President’s final approval for the project under the current year’s budget.
The lawmaker, who also chairs the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations, reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening healthcare services by upgrading Bichi General Hospital into a specialist hospital.
According to him, the installation of equipment for the hospital’s radiology department has been completed, including a digital X-ray machine, 40 oxygen machines and four dialysis machines, with four additional dialysis machines expected soon.
He added that a 64-slice CT scan machine would complete the upgrade, after which the Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, and the Commissioner for Health would be invited to commission the new facilities.
Abubakar also disclosed plans to modernize the hospital’s surgical and operating theatre to meet the standards of leading hospitals in Kano State, saying the upgrade would help reduce pressure on major referral hospitals in Kano metropolis, including Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital and Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Specialist Hospital.
He appealed to the Kano State Government to upgrade Danzabuwa and Saye Primary Healthcare Centres into general hospitals, pledging to support the projects with infrastructure and medical equipment.
The lawmaker also called on the state government to absorb the 120 temporary health workers into the state’s permanent and pensionable workforce.
He commended the health committee chaired by Professor Yusuf Muhammad for conducting what he described as a transparent recruitment process and urged the newly commissioned workers to carry out their duties with professionalism, dedication and integrity.
Abubakar further praised Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his investments in the health and education sectors, saying they had contributed significantly to improving the welfare of the people of Kano State.
