BREAKING: Katsina Govt Confirms Death of Retired Major General Rabe Abubakar in Bandits’ Captivity

The Katsina State Government has announced the death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar while in the custody of bandits, describing the incident as a tragic loss to both the state and the nation.

In a statement issued on Saturday by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasiru Mu’azu, the government said the retired military officer died from complications arising from diabetes and hypertension while in captivity.

The government noted that despite sustained efforts by the state authorities and security agencies to secure his release, the rescue attempts were unsuccessful, culminating in the General’s death.

According to the statement, the late General’s abduction and subsequent death represent not only a loss to his family and Katsina State but also a significant loss to Nigeria.

Reacting to the development, Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family and the nation, describing the incident as a “dark moment” and a stark reminder of the need for intensified action against criminal elements threatening peace and security in communities.

Governor Radda reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to working closely with the Federal Government and security agencies to ensure that those responsible for the crime are brought to justice.

He also assured residents that the government remains resolute in its efforts to combat banditry and guarantee the safety of lives and property across the state.

The government extended its sympathies to the family of the deceased and prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul.
