The Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has challenged Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to produce evidence that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf was behind the alleged moves to disqualify the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship candidate, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, ahead of the 2027 elections.
The party said Kwankwaso was engaging in political blackmail by attempting to link the APC and Governor Yusuf to the legal battle threatening Gwarzo’s candidature, insisting that the dispute was rooted in the NDC’s internal crisis.
In a statement issued, the APC state chairman, Umar Haruna Doguwa, dismissed the allegation as false and baseless, challenging the former Kano governor to provide credible evidence rather than make claims capable of heating up the political atmosphere.
Doguwa said the legal action was instituted by members of the NDC against the party and had nothing to do with the APC, Governor Yusuf or the Kano State Government.

He maintained that neither the APC nor its governorship candidate sponsored, influenced or facilitated the court proceedings against Gwarzo.
The party accused Kwankwaso, whom it described as the NDC vice-presidential candidate, of attempting to divert attention from the internal challenges confronting his party by dragging the APC into the dispute.
“Attempts to associate the APC and its candidate, Governor Yusuf, with the matter are misleading and intended to shift attention from the internal challenges confronting the NDC,” the statement said.
It further challenged Kwankwaso to substantiate his claims, insisting that the judiciary was an independent arm of government whose proceedings and decisions could not be dictated by the APC or the state governor.
The party said it had no interest in interfering with the electoral process or using state power against political opponents, stressing that every eligible candidate had a constitutional right to contest the 2027 elections.
It reaffirmed its commitment to democratic principles and urged political actors to allow relevant institutions to discharge their constitutional responsibilities without politicising disputes arising from internal party disagreements.
The APC called on the public to disregard attempts to link Governor Yusuf and the party to the legal battle, insisting that they had no direct or indirect involvement in the proceedings concerning Gwarzo’s candidature.
