Senate President Godswill Akpabio sparked laughter on Thursday as he playfully teased former Federal Capital Territory (FCT) senator Philip Aduda during the commissioning of a major road project in Abuja.
Speaking at the event, Akpabio recalled their time together in the 8th Senate, joking that despite Aduda’s position as a principal officer, he was never invited to commission any project.
“You and I were together in the 8th Senate, and you never invited me to commission one single project,” Akpabio said, drawing laughter from guests and residents at the ceremony.
The Senate President noted that Aduda appeared delighted by the occasion, as residents celebrated the completion of the road project executed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Akpabio commended Wike for his commitment to infrastructure development, describing the project as further proof of the minister’s reputation for delivering impactful public works. He said the road would improve mobility and enhance the quality of life for residents of the affected communities.
In a lighthearted remark, Akpabio suggested that Aduda’s visible appreciation of the project could help renew goodwill among his constituents and possibly boost his future political prospects.
He also emphasized the importance of sustained collaboration between the legislature and the FCT administration in delivering projects that strengthen public confidence in government.
Residents who attended the commissioning welcomed the development and expressed hope that more infrastructure projects would be delivered across the capital city in the coming months.
