The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the results of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates.
The examination body announced the development on Wednesday through its official X account, directing candidates to generate a Personal Identification Number (PIN) on its website before checking their results on the WAEC result portal.
According to WAEC, out of the 1,950,726 candidates who sat for the examination, 1,200,514 candidates, representing 61.54 per cent, obtained credits in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.
Candidates are required to generate a PIN and serial number on the WAEC website before accessing their results on the result-checking portal. The verification process also requires candidates to provide their examination number, National Identification Number (NIN) used during registration, and contact details for one-time password (OTP) verification.
About 1.96 million candidates from more than 24,200 secondary schools across Nigeria participated in the examination, which was conducted between April 21 and June 19, 2026.
While most candidates wrote the examination using the traditional pen-and-paper format, WAEC said a significantly higher number of schools adopted the computer-based testing (CBT) option compared to previous years.
The results were released about 45 days after the conclusion of the examination, in line with the council’s earlier projection. The release also follows the earlier publication of results for the 2026 First Series Computer-Based WASSCE for Private Candidates.
