Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, and Bala Maijama’a Wunti, a former top official of the NNPCL, have lost the governorship primary election conducted by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State ahead of the 2027 general election.

The chairman of the APC Governorship Primary Committee in Bauchi, retired AIG John Abang, announced that former governor Mohammed Abubakar emerged victorious after defeating six other aspirants.

According to the results, Mohammed Abubakar polled 57,517 votes to secure the party’s ticket, while Tuggar garnered 26,001 votes. Nura Manu Soro scored 13,638 votes, while Bala Wunti secured 13,648 votes.

Other aspirants in the race included Kabir Baba Ma’aji, who polled 8,157 votes, Baba Abubakar Suleiman with 7,688 votes, and Yakubu Abdullahi, who received 7,181 votes.

Incumbent Governor Bala Mohammed had defeated Mohammed Abubakar in the 2019 governorship election when he contested under the PDP platform.

Tuggar was among cabinet members who resigned in compliance with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive requiring political appointees seeking elective offices in 2027 to step down before the deadline.
