Former Adamawa State governorship candidate, Senator Aishatu Dahiru Binani, has defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Binani said her decision followed a careful review of the NDC’s constitution, noting that she was convinced by the party’s commitment to structured and policy-driven governance. She explained that the move was largely influenced by her political supporters, many of whom had already aligned with the party before her formal defection.
She stressed that her actions were guided by the interests of her supporters, adding that politics remains dynamic and decisions are often shaped by prevailing realities. Binani also noted that she holds no grievances against her former parties.
Welcoming her into the party, NDC National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, described the platform as inclusive and open to new members. He encouraged other politicians dissatisfied with their current parties to consider joining the NDC, emphasizing that no one is bound to remain in a political party against their will.
Binani’s defection is expected to influence political alignments in Adamawa State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
She was the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the 2023 Adamawa election, which was marked by controversy after she was briefly declared winner before the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nullified the announcement.
