Mob lynches suspected phone snatchers in Kano

Two suspected Phone snatchers were reportedly lynched by a  mob after stealing a girl’s mobile phone near Fatima Special Primary school, Gyadi-Gyadi, opposite Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital gate.

Eyewitnesses said the girl surrendered her phone to the suspects and could not shout for help because of fear of being attacked.

Similarly, the suspects attacked another male passerby and snatched his mobile phone, drawing the attention of other passersby, who summoned courage and confronted the knife-wielding youths.

A POS operator near Court road roundabout said the suspects brandishing sharp knives, provoked anger  among passersby by daring anyone to confront them.

Within a minute, the mob descended on them beating them with anything they could find.

He said, “It is not the first time Phone snatchers would attack people here and many are angry and therefore when these two boys seized phones belonging to a girl and a male passerby, people descended on them. We watched as they were beaten unconscious. I was told that one of them died at the hospital where they were taken to after being rescued from the mob.”

Another eyewitness said he was coming from Naibaw, when he ran into a crowd near Court roundabout, which turned out to be a mob lynching suspected phone snatchers.

“They were injured after several beatings with blood gushing out from their faces and bodies. The suspected thieves were young men in their midst 20s,” the witness said.
