In a petition dated July 3, 2026 and signed by the group’s Youth Leader, Comrade Hamza Aminu Fagge, the association expressed concern over the treatment of Mr. Yusuf Adam Muhammad, a person with visual impairment who reportedly applied for the position of Solar Retailer.
According to the petition, Muhammad successfully participated in and passed all stages of the recruitment process but was allegedly denied employment because of his disability.
The association stated that on June 25, 2026, Muhammad was asked to remain at the company’s Kano office from about 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. before he was reportedly given ₦1,000 for transportation by the Area Business Manager, Mrs. Mansura Isa, and asked to return home with a promise that he would be contacted later.
The group alleged that despite disclosing his visual impairment during a virtual interview and meeting the recruitment requirements, he was subsequently not offered the job.
The association argued that such action, if established, would amount to discrimination on the basis of disability and would be contrary to the provisions of the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act, 2018, which seeks to guarantee equal opportunities and inclusion for persons with disabilities in employment and other areas of public life.
The petition also alleged that a courtesy visit letter sent to Aspira Nigeria Limited was rejected on the grounds that the company does not entertain disability-related matters.
The group said such incidents continue to create barriers for qualified persons with disabilities who are capable of making meaningful contributions to society.
It called on the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, civil society organisations, security agencies and other relevant stakeholders to investigate the matter and ensure that any violations of the law are addressed.
The association reiterated its commitment to advocating equal opportunities, fairness and respect for the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities.
As of the time of filing this report, neither d.light Solar Energy nor Aspira Nigeria Limited had publicly responded to the allegations contained in the petition.
