Fan stabbed to death at football match in Plateau

An 18-year-old boy, identified as Paul Augustine, has been reportedly stabbed to death by his friend during a friendly football match in the Kufang community of Jos South Local Government Area of the state.

According to our source, the incident occurred over the weekend during a heated argument between the deceased and his friend.

A witness told our correspondent that Paul and his friend had a misunderstanding over a football jersey during the game, and the friend, now at large, reportedly pulled out a knife and stabbed him in the chest, leaving him unconscious.

The victim was immediately rushed to a nearby medical facility, from where he was again referred to the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), but was confirmed dead on arrival.

An uncle to the deceased, Mr. John Austin, who spoke to journalists, described the incident as heartbreaking and called for justice to prevail.

Also reacting, the community youth leader, Francis Stephen, condemned the act, stressing that anger has never been the best way to resolve conflict, and urged young people to control their tempers and find peaceful ways of settling disputes.

Stephen further said that the police were working tirelessly to ensure that justice is served and that the suspect is apprehended.

No immediate response from the police in the state on the incident.
