The Kano State Government has declared Tuesday, September 1, 2026, a work-free day across the state to enable residents to celebrate Takutaha, a traditional and religious occasion observed annually on the 17th of Rabi’ul Awwal.
The declaration was contained in Circular No. 7/2026, dated August 26, 2026, and signed by Abba A. Danguguwa, Permanent Secretary, Establishment Directorate, on behalf of the Head of Service.
The circular stated that the approval was granted by the Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, in recognition of the cultural and religious significance of the Takutaha celebration to the people of Kano.
According to the government, the occasion forms an integral part of the state’s Islamic heritage and provides an opportunity for spiritual reflection.
The government consequently encouraged civil servants to use the period for supplications, prayers and spiritual reflection, particularly by seeking Allah’s blessings and mercy for continued peace, tranquillity, unity and prosperity in Kano State and Nigeria.
All heads of ministries, departments and agencies were directed to ensure strict compliance with the declaration, while essential services are expected to continue in accordance with established procedures.
The circular was addressed to senior government officials, including the Chief of Staff, Secretary to the State Government, commissioners, permanent secretaries, heads of government agencies and other public institutions in the state.
