The Kano State House of Assembly has commenced the legislative review of the proposed Kano State Police Bill, with the legislation expected to undergo second reading on October 12, 2026.
The Assembly formally received the Bill and circulated copies to all members for detailed study, analysis and possible recommendations aimed at improving its provisions.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, the Bill had earlier been read on the floor of the House during a recent plenary session, allowing lawmakers to begin its consideration in line with legislative procedures.
The statement said members are expected to complete their individual review of the proposed legislation before it is presented for second reading and further deliberation by the House on October 12.
Speaking on the development, the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Jibril Isma’il Falgore, said Kano State was committed to addressing security challenges through proactive measures and effective legislation.
Falgore noted that although Kano remains relatively peaceful compared with several other states in the country, strengthening the state’s security architecture through appropriate legislation remains essential.
He assured that the Assembly would continue to support measures aimed at enhancing security and protecting residents across the state.
