Kano Police Warn Against Defying Durbar, Horse-Riding Ban

The Kano State Police Command has reiterated the enforcement of the state government’s ban on all forms of Durbar and horse-riding activities, warning individuals and organisations against violating the directive.

The Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, made this known on Friday during a press briefing at the Bompai Police Headquarters in Kano.

Bakori said the state government had imposed the ban after consultations with relevant security stakeholders as part of efforts to preserve public peace, safety and order across the state.

He noted that reports of apparent violations of the directive had been received, stressing that the security concerns that led to the ban remained relevant.

“The executive security directives regarding the ban on Durbar and horse-riding activities are still in force and binding on all persons in the state, irrespective of status or position,” the commissioner said.

According to him, the police and other security agencies would not allow any activity capable of disrupting public peace or endangering the safety of residents.

He said a joint security meeting had consequently resolved that any individual, institution or organisation intending to organise any form of Durbar or horse/animal-riding activity in a public place must notify the Kano State Police Command in writing at least 72 hours before the event.

The notice, he explained, must be submitted through the office of the Commissioner of Police to enable the security agencies to conduct the necessary security assessment and make appropriate arrangements for public safety and order.

Bakori urged residents, organisations and other concerned parties to strictly comply with all lawful security directives and cooperate with the security agencies.

He assured residents that the law enforcement and security agencies in the state remained united and committed to enforcing the law and protecting public peace and order.

The commissioner thanked members of the press for attending the briefing and urged them to continue supporting efforts aimed at maintaining security in Kano State.
