BREAKING: Kano Police Invite NDC Candidate Over Alleged Unlawful Display of Firearm

The Kano State Police Command has invited the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Hon. Aminu Abdullahi Warkal, over the alleged unlawful display of a firearm during what appeared to be a political gathering.

The command disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday, October 5, 2026, by its spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.

According to the statement, the police came across a video circulating on social media during a routine cyber patrol, showing Warkal allegedly displaying a firearm suspected to be a pump-action rifle.

The command said such display, if established, could constitute a violation of the Firearms Act and potentially cause fear, intimidation and a breach of public peace.

It said Warkal was invited to the command headquarters in Bompai, Kano, on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.

The NDC candidate is currently at the State Intelligence Department (SID), where investigation into the matter is ongoing.

The police commissioner warned that the command would not tolerate lawlessness, thuggery or the display of weapons capable of threatening public peace, regardless of the status of those involved.

He also urged political candidates, their supporters and other stakeholders to conduct their activities peacefully and comply with the Electoral Act, Firearms Act and other relevant laws.

The command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and maintaining peace in Kano before, during and after the political season.
