A group of political associates loyal to former Kano State Deputy Governor, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, has visited Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and his deputy, Murtala Sule Garo, ahead of their planned defection from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The delegation, led by a close ally of Gawuna, Muhammad Badaru Umar, paid a solidarity visit to the governor and his deputy, according to a statement issued on Tuesday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
Among those on the delegation were Ali Datti Yako, NDC Vice Chairman in Kano State; Mansur Isa Gawuna; Uba Tanko Mijinyawa, popularly known as Uba Danzainab; Aminu Umar Faruk; Sani Jibrin; Salisu Muhammad; Musa Sani Indabo; Muhammad Kabir Bala; Hassan Abba Abdullahi; and Abdurrahman Muhammad.
Speaking during the visit, Umar said the decision to meet Governor Yusuf was motivated by their commitment to the development and progress of Kano State.
He said the engagement formed part of their consultations and efforts to support initiatives aimed at advancing the state.
Also speaking, Yako said Kano residents were aware of the efforts being made by Governor Yusuf to transform the state.
“Everyone knows that Governor Yusuf is working tirelessly to transform Kano State,” he said.
The development comes amid ongoing political realignments in Kano ahead of the 2027 general elections, as prominent political actors continue to reassess their political affiliations.
The planned defection of members of Gawuna’s political camp to the APC is expected to boost the party’s strength in Kano as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections intensify.
The delegation also expressed solidarity with Governor Yusuf and his deputy, Murtala Sule Garo, while reaffirming their interest in the continued development and progress of Kano State.
