Tinubu Approves Posting of 65 Nigerian Ambassadors

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the posting of 65 ambassadors to represent Nigeria in various countries and international missions across the world.

The list includes 31 career diplomats and 34 non-career ambassadors. The nominees had earlier been confirmed by the Nigerian Senate in December 2025.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the postings assign several prominent political figures and former public officials to strategic diplomatic missions.

Among the non-career ambassadors, former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Mahmud Yakubu, has been posted to Qatar, while former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode will serve as Nigeria’s ambassador to Germany.

Former Minister of Health Isaac Folorunso Adewole has been posted to Canada, while businessman and politician Jimoh Ibrahim will serve as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

Other notable postings include Reno Omokri to Mexico, former Interior Minister Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau to China, and former Lagos deputy governor Olufemi Pedro to Australia.

The President also approved the deployment of 31 career diplomats to various countries, including Algeria, Egypt, India, Morocco, Belgium, Switzerland, Malaysia, and Thailand.

The statement disclosed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already received the agrément from the United Kingdom for Ambassador-designate Aminu Dalhatu, who will serve as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the UK. Similarly, the France has granted agrément for Ambassador-designate Ayo Oke.

The ministry has also forwarded the nominations of the remaining envoys to their respective host countries, requesting diplomatic clearance in line with international protocol.

President Tinubu further directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to immediately commence the induction programme for all ambassadors-designate and High Commissioners ahead of their deployment.

Nigeria maintains diplomatic missions in dozens of countries worldwide as part of its efforts to strengthen bilateral relations, promote trade, and advance its foreign policy objectives.
