Hajiya Amina Abdullahi Sani (HOD), a key pillar of the Kwankwasiyya grassroots movement and close political ally of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State.
Amina HOD, who serves as the Kano State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Children and Persons with Special Needs, announced her defection in a press statement issued on Saturday by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya.
Widely regarded as one of the ideological drivers of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Amina HOD was described as a politician with strong principles and deep grassroots influence. According to the statement, her decision to join the APC was guided by her alignment with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s “Kano First” agenda, aimed at accelerating development and fostering peaceful coexistence in the state.
The statement said her defection comes amid what it described as Kano’s ongoing political realignment under Governor Yusuf, noting that the administration’s reform agenda is gaining increasing acceptance among political stakeholders and the general public.
It added that commissioners overseeing strategic ministries have reaffirmed their loyalty to the governor, insisting that governance in the state remains stable, with policies being formulated and implemented and projects continuing across sectors.
The Kano State Government dismissed claims of internal crisis as misleading and politically motivated, stressing that the cabinet remains functional and committed to the administration’s development objectives.
According to the statement, the Yusuf administration will continue to operate within the rule of law, strengthen cooperation among the three arms of government, and remain focused on delivering good governance to the people of Kano State.
