FG accuses foreign lobbyists of promoting false genocide claims in Nigeria

The Federal Government has accused some foreign lobbyists of deliberately promoting false claims of a “Christian genocide” in Nigeria.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, made the allegation while addressing journalists at a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday.

Idris said government findings have uncovered a network of external actors, particularly in the United States, who are spreading divisive and misleading narratives about Nigeria’s internal security situation.

“The Nigerian government has established a clear link between some of these lobbyists operating abroad, especially in the US, and certain activities within Nigeria,” Idris said.

He noted that while the Tinubu administration acknowledges that insecurity has affected communities across different parts of the country, there is no evidence of any organised or systematic persecution of any religious group.

Idris urged the public and the international community to rely on verified information and avoid being misled by groups or individuals seeking to destabilise the country through false narratives.
