Guinea-Bissau Military Thwarts Alleged Coup Attempt

The military authorities in Guinea-Bissau say they have foiled an alleged plot to overthrow the constitutional government, arresting several senior officers accused of planning to disrupt the country’s forthcoming general elections.

According to an official statement, the arrests were carried out on October 30 — just hours before the official start of campaigns for the legislative and presidential elections scheduled for November 23, 2025.

Among those taken into custody is Brigadier General Daba Nawalna, also known as Dahaba Na Walna, who serves as the director of the Cuméré Military Training Centre and is a former president of the Military High Court.

Officials confirmed that Nawalna was arrested at his residence in the capital, Bissau, as investigations into the alleged coup plot continue.
