Indabawa said that the new Naval Chief will bring a wealth of experience into the post.

However, the advocacy called on the Kano State Government to accord due recognition to Rear Admiral Idi Abbas being an illustrious son of the state.

The statement reads, “The Kano Media Advocacy Network (K-MAN) joins well-meaning Nigerians at home and abroad in felicitating with Rear Admiral Idi Abbas, a consummate naval officer, illustrious son of Kano State, and one of the finest embodiments of professional integrity and patriotic commitment within the Nigerian Armed Forces.

“Born on 20th September 1969, Rear Admiral Abbas, who proudly hails from Kano State in Nigeria’s North-West, was commissioned into the Nigerian Navy as a Mid-Shipman on 18th September 1992 under the 40th Regular Course. Over the decades, his unbroken record of meritorious service, strategic leadership, and unflinching loyalty to the nation’s defence architecture culminated in his promotion to the prestigious rank of Rear Admiral on 10th September 2020, having fulfilled all requisite professional and ethical standards.

“His enviable trajectory in naval command has seen him occupy numerous high-profile appointments, among which stands out his tenure as Flag Officer Commanding, Central Naval Command, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, a period distinguished by his resolute crackdown on crude oil theft, piracy, and other maritime infractions that had long plagued the region. His stewardship not only safeguarded Nigeria’s maritime assets but also reaffirmed the Navy’s strategic relevance in the preservation of national sovereignty and economic security.

“K-MAN therefore salutes Rear Admiral Idi Abbas as a paragon of discipline, diligence, and devotion, a beacon of excellence whose contributions to national service underscore the calibre of leadership Kano State continues to produce on the national stage. We urge him to sustain his unwavering sense of duty and to continually reflect the aspirations of both Nigeria and the good people of Kano State in every platform of influence he occupies.

“In the same spirit, K-MAN respectfully calls upon the Kano State Government to accord due recognition to this illustrious son of the soil through the hosting of a State Honours Dinner, a symbolic gesture of appreciation for a citizen whose commitment to duty and nation-building has brought pride and prestige to the State.

“Rear Admiral Idi Abbas represents the triumph of character, competence, and courage, virtues that the Kano Media Advocacy Network holds in the highest regard. His accomplishments shall continue to inspire generations of young Nigerians, particularly from Kano, to pursue excellence in service to humanity and fatherland.

“Once again congratulations, Rear Admiral Idi Abbas, a distinguished ambassador of Kano and a pillar of national pride.”
