Senate to Screen Amupitan for INEC Chairmanship Thursday

The Senate will on Thursday screen  Prof Joash Ojo Amupitan (SAN), who was nominated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as new chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The Director of Information, Office of  the Secretary Research  and Information at the National Assembly, Bullah Audu Bi-Allah, confirmed this in a statement on Wednesday.

President Tinubu had on Tuesday requested the Senate to confirm Amupitan as new INEC chairman.

The President had last week nominated Amupitan as new INEC chairman following the expiration of tenure of Prof Mahmood Yakubu.

The president later requested the senate to confirm Amupitan as the chairman of the commission.

However, Bi-Allah in a statement Wednesday said, “The  Office of  the Secretary Research  and Information wishes to notify members of the Press and the general public  that the Senate will, tomorrow, Thursday, 16th October, 2025, conduct the screening of the nominee of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR , Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan (SAN), as Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“The exercise is scheduled to hold at the Senate Chamber, National Assembly Complex.”
