The Gombe Unity and Development Mandate Forum (GUDMF) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the reappointment of Abubakar Yelwa as the Managing Director of the Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC).
Speaking during a press conference at Chartwell Hotel in Bauchi on Friday, the Secretary of GUDMF, Aliyu Musa, described Yelwa’s reappointment as well-deserved.
He added that it was a recognition of his visionary leadership and commitment to the development of hydroelectric power-producing communities.
According to him, “The reappointment is a testament to his faith in Almighty Allah, unwavering dedication, visionary leadership, and outstanding contributions to the development of hydroelectric power-producing communities in Nigeria.
“His first tenure was marked by remarkable strides in infrastructural development, youth empowerment, and sustainable initiatives that have positively impacted the lives of many across the HYPPADEC member states.”
Aliyu noted that states such as Gombe, Nasarawa and Taraba were included in HYPPADEC due to Yelwa’s determination to ensure fairness and inclusivity, stressing that communities around the Dadin Kowa Dam in Gombe State had already begun to benefit from the commission’s interventions.
“We will remain grateful to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his entire cabinet for recognizing Sadiq Yelwa’s exceptional capabilities and granting him renewed opportunity to serve. This decision reaffirms the President’s commitment to fostering progress and development in Nigeria’s critical sectors,” he added.
The Forum further called on the Senate to expedite Yelwa’s confirmation to enable him to continue implementing programmes that would uplift host communities.
It also expressed appreciation to governors of the HYPPADEC catchment states and other stakeholders for supporting the reappointment, describing their role as “a demonstration of patriotism and commitment to national development.”
