Professor Gwarzo noted that the late Ashaka lived a life of impact and service, dedicating his career to upholding the ethics and professionalism of journalism. He described him as a committed journalist whose work earned him respect across the country and beyond.
“Saleh was not just an outstanding journalist but also a philanthropist who touched many lives. His generosity to colleagues and the overwhelming outpouring of tributes across the country speak volumes about his character as a kind, humble, and benevolent person,” he said.
He further recalled that Ashaka was one of the finest correspondents produced by VOA, admired for his calm, peaceful voice and balanced reporting style, which endeared him to listeners over the years.

Gwarzo added that the late journalist’s passing has created a vacuum that will be difficult to fill, especially at a time when the media industry needs experienced and principled voices.
He extended his heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and professional colleagues of the deceased, praying to Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings, grant him Aljannatul Firdaus, and give those he left behind the strength to bear the loss.
