Suspected gunmen have killed a prominent Islamic cleric, Sheikh Yahaya Masussuka, at his residence in Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State.
Reports said the incident occurred at about 9pm at the entrance to the cleric’s home, when the assailants opened fire on him and a friend.
Following the attack, both victims were rushed to Dutsin-Ma Hospital for emergency medical treatment but were later confirmed dead.
The motive behind the killing remains unclear as of the time of filing this report.
The incident has thrown residents of Dutsin-Ma into mourning, particularly followers of Sheikh Masussuka and others who knew him.
The police have confirmed the cleric’s death to DW Hausa, although further details surrounding the attack have yet to emerge.
