The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on Monday questioned the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, over his alleged connection to the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) scandal.
Gbajabiamila’s lawyer, Jiti Ogunye, confirmed that his client honoured the commission’s invitation, appeared before investigators, provided his statement, answered questions, and later returned to his official duties.
President Bola Tinubu had, on July 2, directed the ICPC to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the PFIPC controversy and submit its findings within 30 days.
The investigation centres on claims by Adeniyi Adeyemi, the alleged operator of PFIPC, who accused Gbajabiamila of issuing him an appointment letter. Gbajabiamila has denied the allegation, insisting that neither his office nor the presidency established or appointed anyone to the organisation.
Adeyemi also alleged that the Chief of Staff received ₦400 million through a proxy and demanded an additional ₦200 million to secure his appointment. The allegations have been rejected by Gbajabiamila.
Meanwhile, the police have charged Adeyemi with forgery and impersonation in connection with the operations of PFIPC. He was arrested after a Federal High Court in Abuja issued a bench warrant against him for failing to appear in court.
Investigators are also probing how PFIPC allegedly operated like a government agency, with office space at the Federal Secretariat, staff recruitment, and an allocation in the 2026 federal budget, despite the presidency maintaining that the body has no legal backing and does not exist under the Tinubu administration.
