Standing Firm in Difficult Times: Why Waiya Matters to Governor Yusuf’s 2027 Ambition

By Munir Ibrahim Publisher

On 25th June 2026, the Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, held a meeting with elected and appointed political stakeholders across the state. The meeting focused on the future of the ruling party and preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

During the meeting, the governor reportedly called on all stakeholders to begin working towards ensuring the party’s success in the next election cycle. He emphasized the need for commitment, coordination, and active engagement at all levels of the political structure.

The directive was significant because it came at the right time before the elections. It reflected the importance of early planning and the recognition that political success often depends on long-term organization rather than last-minute activities.

Political mobilization is not limited to campaign periods. It involves maintaining contact with constituents, communicating government policies, and sustaining party structures within communities. These activities often take place long before election season begins.

In Kano State, some public officials have already been actively engaging the public in line with these objectives. Among them is the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, whose office has been involved in communicating government activities, policies, and achievements to the public.

The governor’s recent call therefore provides a common direction for all stakeholders. It places responsibility on elected officials, political appointees, party leaders, and supporters to intensify their efforts ahead of 2027. However, beyond strategy and organization, loyalty and consistency remain important factors in political engagement.

Many observers point to Waiya’s role during critical political moments as an example of such commitment. At a time when the decision to align with the APC generated intense debate and uncertainty, he was among those who publicly stood by the political project and defended its direction. While some elected and appointed officials maintained a low profile during that period, Waiya remained visible and actively engaged in the political process.

It is often said that those who stand with a cause during its most difficult moments are more likely to remain committed when circumstances improve. From this perspective, the governor may take confidence in having individuals such as Waiya within his political team. His continued visibility and engagement suggest a level of commitment that could prove valuable as preparations for 2027 gather momentum.

If stakeholders respond positively to the governor’s directive, their combined efforts could strengthen party structures and improve coordination across different parts of the state. As preparations continue, the effectiveness of the directive will depend on how stakeholders translate it into practical action. The coming months are likely to reveal the level of commitment and cooperation within the party’s ranks.
