A tragic and deeply troubling incident occurred on Monday at Kariya Bridge in Ikara Local Government Area of Kaduna State, where suspected motorcycle snatchers attacked three members of the same family, killing Abdulshakuru, popularly known as Dan Ladiyo, and leaving two others seriously injured and hospitalized.
The victims were reportedly traveling near the bridge when they were violently attacked by criminals who have long operated in the area. During the assault, Abdulshakuru sustained fatal injuries and later died, while the two other family members survived and are currently receiving medical treatment.
Abdulshakuru “Dan Ladiyo” was the Commander of the Vigilante Group, Rugu-Rugu Division, Tudun-Wada Local Government Area, and was widely respected for his role in protecting lives and property within his community. His killing has sparked outrage and renewed fear among residents, who describe the incident as part of a long-standing pattern of violent attacks along the Kariya Bridge axis.
Residents say criminal activities, particularly motorcycle snatching and armed robbery, have persisted in the area for years without meaningful intervention by government authorities. Despite repeated incidents and loss of innocent lives, locals lament that no concrete security measures have been put in place, allowing criminals to operate with little or no resistance.

The latest attack has further exposed the vulnerability of commuters, traders, and rural dwellers who rely heavily on motorcycles as their primary means of transportation. Community members argue that the continued neglect of the area has emboldened criminals and turned Kariya Bridge into a dangerous zone.
In response to this tragic loss, strong calls have been made to the Kaduna State Government to take urgent and decisive action. Residents are demanding sustained security presence, practical protection of key routes, and a comprehensive strategy to end recurring criminal attacks in Ikara Local Government Area and its surroundings.
The killing of a serving vigilante commander, alongside the injury of two other family members, is being described as a painful reminder of the consequences of prolonged inaction. Community leaders warn that unless immediate steps are taken, more innocent lives may be lost.
As the affected families mourn and the injured struggle to recover, residents continue to appeal for justice, safety, and responsible governance that prioritizes the protection of citizens.
