Describing the late Imam as a courageous advocate of religious tolerance and interfaith dialogue, the Mission noted that Imam Abubakar dedicated his life to fostering peace and building bridges across religious communities.

The statement recalled that in recognition of his exceptional bravery and commitment to religious freedom, the United States Department of State honoured him with the International Religious Freedom Award in 2019.

According to the Mission, Imam Abubakar’s selfless actions stood as a powerful example of humanity, interfaith harmony, and peaceful coexistence.

The US Mission added that the legacy of compassion, acceptance, and unity left behind by the late cleric would continue to inspire people in Nigeria, the United States, and beyond.
