BREAKING: Police Arrest Three Suspects Over Murder of Kano Housewife, Six Children

The Kano State Police Command has arrested three principal suspects in connection with the killing of a housewife and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters of Kano metropolis.

The arrests followed an intelligence-led operation carried out on the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and under the supervision of the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.

According to the police, the suspects were apprehended during a sting operation conducted between 10:00 p.m. on January 17 and 4:00 a.m. on January 18, 2026.

Those arrested were identified as Umar Auwalu, 23, of Sabuwar Gandu Quarters; Isyaku Yakubu, also known as “Chebe,” 40, of Sagagi Quarters; and Yakubu Abdulaziz, popularly called “Wawo,” 21, of Sabon Gida Sharada Quarters.

Police said the alleged leader of the group, Umar Auwalu—who is a nephew of the deceased woman—confessed to his involvement in the crime. He also reportedly admitted that the group had carried out other violent attacks in parts of Kano in recent times.

Items recovered from the suspects included clothing with suspected blood stains, two mobile phones belonging to the deceased, a cutlass, a club, cash allegedly taken from the scene, and other weapons. The police said investigations are ongoing.

The Kano State Police Command commended the officers involved in the operation and thanked members of the public for their support and cooperation. The command reassured residents of its determination to ensure that those responsible for criminal acts are brought to justice.

The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.
