BREAKING: Court Orders Interim Forfeiture of 57 Properties Linked to Ex-AGF Malami

A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the interim forfeiture of 57 properties valued at about N213.2 billion, allegedly linked to a former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), and two of his sons, Abdulaziz and Abiru-Rahman Malami.

Justice Emeka Nwite made the order on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, after granting an ex-parte application filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) through its counsel, Ekele Iheanacho (SAN). The court held that the assets are reasonably suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities.

The properties, which span Abuja, Kebbi, Kano and Kaduna states, include hotels, residential and commercial buildings, university and school facilities, agro-allied factories, filling stations, shops and large parcels of land.

Justice Nwite directed that the interim forfeiture order be published in a national newspaper to allow any interested individual or organisation to show cause within 14 days why a final forfeiture order should not be granted in favour of the Federal Government. The matter was adjourned to January 27, 2026, for a report of compliance.

Meanwhile, Malami, his wife Bashir Asabe, and his son Abubakar Abdulaziz are standing trial before the same court over alleged N8.7 billion money laundering charges.

Among the assets listed are luxury duplexes and hotels in Maitama, Asokoro, Wuse II and Jabi in Abuja; properties in Nasarawa GRA, Kano; extensive farmlands and housing units in Birnin Kebbi; as well as warehouses, plazas and residential estates acquired between 2016 and 2024.
