Normalcy Restored as Police Probe Brutal Killing at Kano Mosque

The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a man at Yusuf Garko Mosque in the Maraba Quarters area of Kano metropolis, with authorities launching a full investigation into the incident.

This is contained in a statement Signed by CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, spokesperson of Kano State Police Command.

The victim, identified as Ladan Malam Zubairu, a resident of the area, was reportedly brutally slaughtered by an unknown assailant on Sunday, December 15, 2025.

Eyewitnesses said the suspect attempted to flee the scene but was immediately pursued by an enraged mob, which eventually lynched him. The mob also set the suspect’s residence on fire, leading to the destruction of property in the area.

The police said security personnel were swiftly deployed to the scene, restoring calm and preventing further breakdown of law and order.

According to the command, investigators recovered the victim’s severed throat from the pocket of the suspect. The bodies of both the victim and the suspect have been deposited at the Mohammed Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital in Kano, where they were certified dead and are awaiting autopsy.

The Commissioner of Police in Kano State, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has ordered a thorough and comprehensive investigation into the incident to ensure that all those involved are brought to justice.

The police command appealed to residents to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement agencies as investigations continue, urging members of the public to provide any useful information, with assurances that all tips will be treated confidentially.
