BREAKING: Kano Police Begin Strict Enforcement of Motorcycle Passenger Ban, Night Tricycle Restrictions

The Kano State Police Command has announced the commencement of strict enforcement of the ban on carrying passengers on motorcycles, as well as restrictions on the operation of commercial tricycles between 10:00pm and 6:00am daily.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Command said the measures—earlier introduced by the Kano State Government—remain fully in force across nine affected Local Government Areas: Kano Municipal, Gwale, Dala, Fagge, Nassarawa, Tarauni, Kumbotso, Ungogo (Jido Area), and Dawakin Kudu (Tambuwal, Gurjiya and Jido Ward).

According to the police, enforcement teams have been directed to identify, profile, and take action against individuals who violate the ban, while also working to counter false and misleading information capable of causing public panic.

The Command emphasized that the regulations are part of broader efforts to safeguard lives and property. It warned that anyone caught operating a motorcycle with passengers or using a tricycle during restricted hours will be arrested and prosecuted.

Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, urged residents—especially motorcycle and tricycle operators—to comply with the directives and cooperate with security agencies to maintain peace and order in the state. He also encouraged the public to report violations or suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through emergency phone lines: 08032419754, 08123821575, and 09029292926.

The enforcement effort, carried out in collaboration with other security agencies and the Kano Road and Traffic Agency (KAROTA), aims to ensure total compliance for the safety and security of all residents.

The statement was signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.
