Tension is rising in Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State following the fatal shooting of 60-year-old Alhaji Ibrahim Nagode by operatives of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).
Nagode, a resident of Na’alma village, was the father of a notorious bandit leader, Haruna Ibrahim, popularly known as “Fada”.
Sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred as Fada was returning to his community after a recently brokered peace accord between bandits and local residents in Malumfashi.
According to the report, security sources said the area had been placed on high alert after intelligence suggested that suspected armed groups were regrouping in the locality.
“In an effort to prevent renewed attacks, joint troops were deployed to intensify patrols as a proactive measure to forestall any hostile activity,” one security source said. However, the operation reportedly led to the death of Nagode.
The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested all CJTF personnel involved in the shooting.
Authorities are said to be monitoring the situation closely, amid concerns that the killing of the bandit leader’s father could heighten tensions and potentially trigger retaliation.
Security sources stressed the need for continued dialogue and adherence to existing peace agreements to prevent further escalation.
Meanwhile, security operatives have urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movements in their communities.
