Atiku Backs Sowore’s Campaign for Nnamdi Kanu’s Release, Condemns Continued Detention

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has condemned the continued detention of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, describing it as “an open sore on the nation’s conscience” and a violation of the rule of law.

In a statement posted on his verified Facebook page, Atiku criticized the federal government for defying court orders that granted bail to Kanu, calling such actions “an abuse of power and an assault on justice.”

The 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) expressed full support for the ongoing campaign led by activist Omoyele Sowore, which calls for Kanu’s immediate release or proper prosecution in accordance with the law.

“We fail as patriots if we allow Kanu’s case to fester as yet another wound this nation refuses to heal,” Atiku said.

Kanu has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since his re-arrest in 2021.
