Kano Shura Committee will begin hearing a petition against a cleric, Malam Shu’aibu Abubakar Triumph.
Shehu Wada Sagagi, Secretary of the committee, disclosed this to journalists on Friday.
Triumph was recently accused of blasphemy in one of his lectures.
Following the development, some individuals in the state petitioned the state government over what they described as “blasphemous statements against Prophet Muhammad (SAW)”.

But clerics of Izala extraction led by Sheikh Abdullah Gadan Kaya submitted another petition to the state government in defense of Triumph, saying there was nothing blasphemous in Triumph’s statements.
However, the government said that it forwarded the complaints on Friday to the committee to commence deliberations.
The committee said that both petitioners and the respondent will be invited to present their cases
Sagagi said, “After listening to both sides, the committee will deliberate and then advise the state government accordingly.
“We call on the people to maintain peace and harmony. Kano remains one of the most peaceful states in the Northwest, and it is our collective duty to preserve that peace for the economic and social progress of the state.
“This is a committee of well-versed scholars in Islamic jurisprudence. We will advise the government accordingly, in sha Allah.”
