Man ‘stabs’ grandparents to death in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 30-year-old man, Mutawakilu Ibrahim, for allegedly stabbing his grandparents to death during an argument at Kofar Dawanau Quarters in Dala area of Kano.

Police said the incident, which occurred on Thursday morning, stemmed from a food-related disagreement that escalated into violence.

In a statement, the command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed that the suspect was under the influence of intoxicants during the attack.

The suspect allegedly attacked his grandparents, 75-year-old Muhammad Dansokoto and 65-year-old Hadiza Tasidi, with a knife.

Both victims were taken to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, where they were confirmed dead by medical officials.

Their bodies have since been released to relatives for burial in line with Islamic traditions.

He added that Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department’s Homicide Section for further investigation.

The suspect is expected to be arraigned after the investigation is concluded.
