In Defense of (Dr.) Dauda Kahutu Rarara: Beyond Certificate

By Shamwil Ibrahim  (Justice)

Recently, there has been unnecessary criticism directed at Dauda Kahutu Rarara simply because he was honored with a doctorate degree in recognition of his contributions to society. Some argue that he does not deserve the title since he did not pass through a university or complete a conventional PhD program. But such thinking exposes a narrow understanding of what true achievement means.

Greatness is not limited to classrooms or paper qualifications. History is filled with men and women who shaped nations without ever holding a formal degree. Their vision, creativity, and service to humanity speaks louder than certificates. In the same way, Rarara has used his unique gift of music not just as entertainment, but as a tool of political education, social awareness, and cultural preservation.

He is a GOAT (GURU) in his craft. His political songs have influenced national debates, mobilized millions, and given ordinary people a voice. This is not something a textbook can teach; it is talent, wisdom, and courage combined. That alone is worthy of academic recognition.

Furthermore, Rarara’s contribution goes beyond music. He is a philanthropist who has consistently given back to society, especially in Northern Nigeria. Families are smiling today because of his generosity. Communities have felt his impact in real ways. What better definition of education and leadership could there be than using your knowledge and resources to lift others?

The doctorate title given to him is not about sitting in a lecture hall, it is about celebrating real life knowledge and impact. Universities across the world award honorary doctorates to individuals who have distinguished themselves in various fields even if they never attended those schools. If world leaders, inventors, and artists can be honored this way, why should Rarara be treated differently?

The truth is simple: those who criticize him are driven by envy, not logic. Rarara has already earned his place in history as a “Doctor” of music and service to humanity. A piece of paper is not what defines him, his influence, his art, and his philanthropy do.

Greatness is not about holding a certificate; it is about holding the hearts of the people. And on that standard, (Dr.) Dauda Kahutu Rarara has passed with flying colors.
