2027: North-East group to buy APC Senate form for Buni

A coalition of elders and youths from the North-East has announced plans to purchase the All Progressives Congress senatorial nomination form for Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The group, operating under the aegis of the North-East Elders and Youths Forum, disclosed this at the end of its Executive Council meeting held in Bauchi on Tuesday.

Speaking after the meeting, the forum’s National Chairman, Salisu Magaji Gombe, said members had already raised funds to procure the APC Expression of Interest and Nomination forms for Buni’s senatorial bid in Yobe East (Zone A).

Magaji said the decision was informed by the governor’s contributions to Yobe State, the North-East region, and Nigeria at large, as well as his commitment to democratic governance.

He described Buni as a “dynamic and exemplary leader” with the capacity to represent not only Yobe East but the entire North-East at the National Assembly.

“At this stage of Nigeria’s political development, the country needs senators like Buni, who can boldly check the excesses of the executive and speak truth to power, regardless of whose interests are affected,” he said.

According to him, the group’s move to purchase the nomination form was also aimed at persuading the governor to contest the senatorial seat and continue serving the people.

“We believe he has proven himself as a reliable leader whose inclusive style and accessibility will benefit the entire North-East. His door will remain open for the people to channel their needs,” Magaji added.

He further commended Buni’s administration in Yobe State, noting that the governor had restored peace, driven development across sectors, and improved the living conditions of residents.

Magaji also lauded Buni’s role in fostering unity within the APC, saying his leadership helped strengthen cohesion and stability in the party.

The chairman stressed that leaders with Buni’s track record should not retire from public service, urging him to heed the call to contest the Senate seat in 2027.

“Our group, made up of patriots, professionals, technocrats, and artisans, is committed to supporting him to consolidate on his legacy of achievements,” he said.

He added that the governor’s efforts to leave Yobe State better than he met it had largely been achieved, with support from stakeholders across all levels of government.

Magaji appealed to Buni to accept the offer and contest the senatorial election in the interest of the North-East and Nigeria as a whole.
