Tinubu Donates Salaries to Armed Forces Welfare Fund

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the creation of a dedicated welfare fund to support members of Nigeria’s Armed Forces, including personnel wounded in active service and families of fallen soldiers.

The President made the announcement on Sunday to mark his 74th birthday, describing the initiative as a tribute to the courage, sacrifice, and service of military personnel across the country.

According to the State House, Tinubu has directed the Accountant-General of the Federation to open a special account for the fund. The initiative is designed to provide targeted assistance to injured service members, as well as widows, widowers, and children of personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty.

In a personal show of commitment, the President pledged to donate all his salaries since assuming office as seed funding for the scheme, underscoring his determination to ensure that the sacrifices of military personnel are not overlooked.

Tinubu also called on state governors, members of the National Assembly, the private sector, and well-meaning Nigerians to contribute to the fund. He noted that further details on its operation would be released in due course.

The President stressed that the initiative reflects a national responsibility to care for members of the Armed Forces and their families, regardless of existing insurance provisions. He added that supporting the military should be seen not as charity, but as a duty owed by all citizens.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment, Tinubu said efforts would continue to enhance the welfare of military personnel and ensure their service to the nation is rewarded with dignity, care, and sustained support.

The statement was issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
