Over 150 Bandits Drown as Boat Capsizes in Sokoto

No fewer than 150 suspected bandits have reportedly drowned following a boat mishap in the Sabon Gida area of Sokoto State.

According to reports by security analyst Zagazola Makama, the tragic incident occurred on Saturday evening when a boat conveying a large number of armed men capsized while attempting to cross a water body in the area.

Local sources said the bandits were travelling in large numbers when the vessel suddenly overturned, throwing all occupants into the water.

“Preliminary information suggests that many of them could not swim, which led to heavy casualties,” a source disclosed.

Initial reports indicated that none of the occupants survived the incident. However, there has been no official confirmation from security agencies as of the time of filing this report.

If confirmed, the development is expected to deal a significant blow to criminal groups operating in parts of the North-West region.
