CITAD Receives 1,500 Tree Seedlings from Kano Ministry for Million-Tree Campaign

The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) says it has received 1,500 tree seedlings from the Kano State Ministry of Water Resources, Environment and Climate Change to support its Plant One Million Trees (P1MT) campaign.

The organisation disclosed this in a statement signed by Buhari Abba, CITAD P1MT Interim Media Officer, appreciating the ministry’s support through its Forestry Department.

CITAD said the gesture demonstrated the ministry’s commitment to environmental protection, climate change mitigation and sustainable tree-planting practices.

The seedlings comprise 200 Turare, 300 Darbejiya, 200 Panshana, and 100 each of Zogale, Rimi, Dorawa, Aduwa, Kuka, Kurna and Madaci.

According to the organisation, the P1MT campaign aims to plant one million indigenous trees across Nigeria’s 19 northern states by September 2027.

It said the initiative seeks to address environmental degradation, improve biodiversity, strengthen climate resilience and encourage communities to take responsibility for environmental protection.

CITAD also urged individuals and communities to ensure that planted seedlings are properly nurtured and protected to improve their survival rates.

The organisation called on government ministries, departments and agencies, educational institutions, private organisations, development partners, philanthropists and environmentally conscious individuals to support the campaign through donations of seedlings, technical expertise, planting materials, monitoring and community mobilisation.

It emphasised that collective action was necessary to restore degraded lands, protect natural resources and build a greener and more sustainable future.

CITAD further urged supporters and tree planters to document their contributions and upload their tree-planting records through p1mt.ng to strengthen accountability, monitoring and reporting.

The organisation reaffirmed its commitment to working with relevant stakeholders to ensure the campaign achieves its objectives and delivers lasting environmental benefits across Northern Nigeria.
