Barau supporter drags Alwan Hassan to court over alleged defamation

A supporter of the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has dragged Alwan Hassan Ungoggo before the High Court of Kano State over alleged defamatory statements concerning the senator.

The suit was filed by Nasir Ibrahim Isa, popularly known as “Aluta Professor,” at the High Court of Justice of Kano State, Kano Judicial Division.

According to the court documents, Isa is seeking ₦200 million in damages against Alwan Hassan over alleged statements said to have damaged the character and reputation of Senator Barau, whom the plaintiff described as his “master.”

The plaintiff is also seeking ₦1 million as the cost of filing and prosecuting the case, as well as any other relief the court may consider appropriate in the interest of justice.

The writ of summons, dated September 22, 2026, directs the defendant to enter an appearance within eight days after being served with the court process.

The case was instituted through Dalhatu Shehu Usman, Esq., of Dalhatu Shehu Usman & Co., counsel to the applicant.

The court documents indicate that the defendant is to be served at Ungoggo town within Ungoggo Local Government Area of Kano State.

The allegations remain matters before the court, and the defendant will have the opportunity to respond to the claims as the case proceeds.
