Things to know about Kano ADC deputy gov candidate

C.itp Abdulkadir Shehu Bari is the Deputy Governorship Candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kano State, running alongside the gubernatorial candidate, Alhaji Ibrahim Ali Amin (Little). He brings to the ticket a combination of technology and innovation, academic and institutional leadership, vocational skills development, youth empowerment and community service.

Birth

C.itp Abdulkadir Shehu Bari, born in 1990, is an ICT professional, academic, administrator, educationist and community development advocate from Bari Town, Rogo Local Government Area of Kano State.

Education

He attended Police Children School, Bompai, Kano, for his primary education and Government Secondary School, Kwankwaso, for his secondary education.

He obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from Bayero University Kano (BUK) and a Master’s Degree in Information Technology from the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).

Career

He has built his professional and academic career at Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Dambatta (ABCOAD), where he has served in several academic and administrative capacities, including Head of Department, Computer Science; Head of Department, Artificial Intelligence; Director of ICT; Director of Linkages and Affiliations; and Coordinator of the ABCOAD Outreach Centre.

His tenure as Head of Department, Computer Science recorded significant developments in computing education at the College. During this period, four specialised Higher National Diploma programmes were kick-started: HND Artificial Intelligence, HND Cybersecurity and Data Protection, HND Networking and Cloud Computing, and HND Software and Web Development. These specialised areas subsequently evolved into distinct academic departments.

He also initiated and presented the memo for the establishment of a School of Computing at ABCOAD, an initiative that was subsequently approved and implemented, resulting in the establishment of the College’s present School of Computing.

Interests

His professional interests and experience span Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Computer Science, ICT, digital transformation, programming and emerging technologies. He has also contributed to curriculum development and review activities, particularly in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, including engagements with the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).

BLAVSAC

Beyond the College, his commitment to grassroots education, youth empowerment and skills development led him to founding/promoting the Bari Literacy and Vocational Skills Acquisition Centre (BLAVSAC) in his hometown. The centre is approved by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to run six vocational trades, providing opportunities for skills acquisition, entrepreneurship, employability and self-reliance.

Professionally, he serves as Secretary General of the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), Kano State Chapter, and Assistant Secretary General of PAIDeF, among other professional and developmental engagements.
