Governor Malam Umar Namadi has signed the N75.1 billion supplementary appropriation bill and the new Environmental Sector Law.
The law aims at boosting development and safeguarding Jigawa’s natural resources.
The two bills were signed during a state executive council meeting at the Council Chambers of the Government House, Dutse.
Governor Namadi stated that the supplementary budget was necessary to provide additional revenue measures for both the state and its 27 local governments.

Namadi said that N58 billion was allocated to the state government, while N17.1 billion was earmarked for the local governments.
He stressed that the funds must be appropriated in line with constitutional provisions before spending.
Governor Namadi commended the State House of Assembly for its swift passage of the bill and praised the synergy between the legislature and executive in driving Jigawa’s progress.
However, the governor also assented to the new Environmental Sector Law, which provides a framework for conservation, waste management, forest regulation, pollution control, and wildlife protection.
The law empowers the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change to safeguard Jigawa’s environment for present and future generations.
