The leader of the Qadiriyya Sufi sect in Africa, Sheikh Qaribullah Sheikh Nasiru Kabara, has declared the group’s support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term in office in the 2027 presidential election.
Sheikh Qaribullah made the declaration on Sunday when he received the Tinubu campaign team led by the Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdul’aziz Yari.
He said Yari’s appointment had further strengthened the relationship between the Qadiriyya movement and the campaign, noting that the senator had maintained a close relationship with the sect for more than two decades.
“For over 20 years, we have been together with Abdul’aziz Yari, and he has openly supported this house. He is one of us, and whatever he comes with, we have no option but to support it,” Sheikh Qaribullah said.
The cleric said the sect was not only supporting Tinubu’s re-election bid but also believed that the President had a “good mission” for Nigeria.
He added that the Qadiriyya movement would commence prayers for the President, focusing on peace, economic recovery, job creation and an end to insecurity.
“We are going to start prayers with all our followers. The prayers will be centred on peace, economic revival and jobs for our teeming youths.
“We are hopeful that as he mounts his second term, Nigeria would come out of the cocoon of insecurity,” he said.
Yari, who was accompanied by former Kano State Governor and former APC National Chairman, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje; James Faleke; Senator Ali Modu Sheriff; former Katsina State Governor Aminu Masari; Adamu Aleiro and other members of the campaign team, said the delegation began its engagements with religious leaders because of the respect it has for them.
The Qadiriyya sect’s declaration comes as political parties and campaign groups intensify consultations with religious, traditional and community leaders ahead of the 2027 general elections.
